The insight engine links your meals to your sleep

Late meals, alcohol and caffeine, tested night by night against your sleep score, HRV and resting heart rate.

With meals and wearable data in one graph, the insight engine now tests how what you eat and drink shows up in your nights.

What shipped

  • Late eating. The time from your last meal to sleep onset, against the next night's sleep score and HRV.
  • Alcohol. Grams of alcohol, against HRV, resting heart rate and sleep score.
  • Caffeine timing. The time from your last caffeine to sleep, against sleep score and time to fall asleep.

These join the training-load link that shipped in August, which tests yesterday's training against today's readiness.

How strict the engine is

The engine looks back 90 days and needs at least 14 nights, with at least four on each side of the comparison. It names a link only when the correlation reaches 0.3 and the effect is large enough to matter, such as 3 ms of HRV. With enough data and no effect, it tells you once a month that there is no clear link yet. Every note calls a link what it is: a correlation.

The engine runs on your iPhone, from the graph you already hold.
